Oviedo is a charming city, let us show you some of the most attractive corners of the city:
In the old town we can find Plaza del Fontán, a cozy place with ancient arcades where there’s the traditional market in where you can find a lot of typical Asturian products. This square is full of restaurant and “sidrerias”, a cider specialized bar. You can also find here Town Hall Square which at night it lights up spectacularly in blue, the city color and Trascorrales square, in this last one, there are some of the most popular restaurants of the city.
There is also a great Cathedral, the most touristic place in Oviedo, where you can find some Christian relics, like the Holy Shroud, a blanket used to cover Christ face after taking him down the cross.
Escandalera Square divides the city between the old town and the commercial and modern part of the city. Here you can find a famous statue made by Fernando Botero called maternity.
Near Escandalera Square, there’s Campoamor Theatre, where most important plays in Oviedo are made. Also Premios Princesa de Asturias are given here.
Oviedo has some prerromanic buildings, San Miguel de Lillo and Santa María del Naranco, declared World Heritage by UNESCO. They are in Naranco mount, near close the city, its a wonderful walk where you can join a guided visit.
At the top of Naranco mount there´s a statue of Jesus Christ, which has wonderfull sights of the city skyline, specially at the sunset.
In the middle of the city you can find ancient San Francisco Park, our central park, a great place to walk, have an ice-cream in summer or roasted chestnuts in Autumn. San Francisco Park has some beautiful animals like peacocks and swans.
One of the most touristic places in Oviedo is Cider Boulevard in Gascona street. The best “sidrerias” of the town are here, don’t matter which one you choose, it will be a hit.
